Aging veteran care is care that is offered to a veteran who has served in wartime. The wartime veteran has benefits available to them called the “Veterans Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit”. Many veterans don’t know that there is financial help available to them for home care, assisted living, and nursing home care. Certain qualifications must be met in order to receive these benefits.
What does the aging veteran home care do for the veteran and their family?
The aging veteran care will allow the veteran to receive care from an in home service provider. The in home service provider will be paid by the family, but the family will be reimbursed for a certain amount of expenses related to home care, assisted living, or nursing home care. This can cut the veteran’s expenses in half.
How does the veteran get aging veteran care? A physician must certify that the veteran needs help with certain activities of daily living. The veteran and their family members must fill out paper work, submit the paperwork to the V.A. and then wait for approval. The process can take up to 6 months.
Some companies, like Veterans Home Care LLC (www.VeteransHomeCare.com) will (for free) take on the responsibility of helping the veteran file the correct paperwork and get home care started immediately.
If the veteran’s health is poor and the family of the veteran can’t take care of the veteran successfully in the home, then the veteran can be also be approved for the VA Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit while living in Assisted Living or in a Nursing Home. In assisted living, they will have their own space, bedroom and possibly a kitchenette. It will be like a small apartment for the veteran, but the veteran will have medical treatment 24 hours a day if needed.
When you have an aging veteran in your family, check into the VA Aid and Attendance Pension. This program is a great way to get some of the much needed care paid for using a benefit that your aging loved one (or their surviving spouse) may be eligible for!
